Who Proposed This?

Our stop just inside Utah.  The weather had cleared, and we saw more green.

The rig was parked just across the street from Cheyenne's, The Drunken Skunk.

The portion of I-80/US 30 we had just come up

Rain, fog, lightning. . .and now snow, sleet, and the mother of all headwinds. I-80 gently climbs out of Iowa and by the time you get across Nebraska the elevation is over four thousand feet.  As you leave Cheyenne, up you go quickly to an I-80 high of 8600 plus.  The winds had their way with us and "Road Closed When Light Flashing" signs, which I thought were left over from the winter, had been active as recently as Thursday last.  Snow and driving winds had closed the roads from Cheyenne way passed Laramie.  For us, passing was permitted but at a price.  Temps dropped to low 30s, the light rain became sleet, for short spans, and my poor bike had to work at the edge of her capacity.  MPG, usually around 37, dropped as low as 20, and I had to run in lower gears for many miles.  Our weight and the  wind combined to force us to accept 45-50 as a top speed for long periods.  But, outside Laramie, the rain stopped, and temps rose back up to 50.  In all we got in about 550 miles and made our way to a calm and balmy Salt Lake City.  Today, absent any Rapture, we'll head across Nevada, flirt with the lower bits of Oregon, and take aim on the California coast which we should reach Monday afternoon. So now Robin will add a note--Wayne is amazing--enjoys this stuff--I was comfortable in the nest.  In Cheyenne we stopped in a great coffee shop attached to an elegant old hotel and I was chatting to the girl getting our coffee and discovered her name was Wind.  When I told Wayne, he said," so if she was your student and you gave her a passing grade, would you be passing wind?"  So you can see his battling the winds didn't slow him down (hee). The landscape out here is so different from home--so much sky and such weather- shaped hills and massive mountains.  The ride in to Salt Lake was awesome. Ate in a funky Korean restaurant--some flavors, textures and colors I've never had before!
